Script to Screen

A '24' Movie On The Way

 In  Action/Adventure, Suspense/Thriller

I think at some point Fox needs to do a series of public service announcements warning the general television watching audience that sleep deprivation can lead to a lot of health problems.  I mean, before each episode of "Jack Ass" a warning would come up telling kids not to try this at home.  Well... as of this season Jack Bauer has had 8 days of 24 hours without sleep.  That's can't be healthy.  Perhaps a movie to the big screen might help our favorite anti-terror agent get more shut eye?

Variety is reporting that Fox Studios has begun the process of bringing the popular TV show to movie theaters.  They've already hired writer Billy Ray ("State Of Play", "Flightplan", "Shattered Glass") to pen the script that will reportedly take place in Europe and will cover a 24 hour time period in 2 hours of screen time (I didn't think they'd make a full 24 hour movie... unless they got Peter Jackson to direct).

I don't usually get too excited about TV shows hitting the big screen, but 24 is one of those shows that has always felt like its story was told in a film format and so I think it could transition well.

QUESTION: Would you be up for a 24 movie, or do you think it should just stick to the small screen?

Sure, why not. I'd definitely go to see it, but I don't think it would be a patch on the show when if you change the format. It would lose what makes '24' unique (or did make it unique).

I think it should stick to the small screen. 24 is an interesting series so I would definitely go see it, but it just seems that its currently story is better suited for t.v

This would be a great topic to discuss in the Movies Based on TV Shows Group! Here is a link if you haven't already joined:
