'Avatar' Tops $700 million in the US

It's official folks, as of Sunday, "Avatar" has achieved yet another box office record, this time breaking $700 million at the domestic box office.
To put that into perspective, "Titanic" grossed just a hair over $600 million at the box office back in 1997/1998m and its theatrical run was significantly longer than that of "Avatar."
Granted, the average ticket price, not to mention 3D ticket sales have undoubtedly put "Avatar" in a position where it becomes hard to make direct comparisons, but the fact still remains that in under 90 days, "Avatar" is far and away the highest grossing film without inflation.
Another fun fact: IMAX tickets sales for "Avatar" broke $200 million in global ticket sales last week.
IMAX is actually a better indicator when doing box office comparisons, because they ticket price is always higher. Before "Avatar," no IMAX film had even reached the $100 million mark. "The Polar Express" from 2004 did $71 million worldwide.
Pretty stunning, no?
Now that "Avatar" is going to be moving out of many 3D and digital screens to make way for "Alice in Wonderland," it'll be interesting to watch the box office performance. What do you think will happen? Let us know!
