'Shutter Island' Wins Friday Box Office

 In  Box Office

The big winner at the Friday box office was none other than "Shutter Island." The film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Martin Scorsese took in $14 million on its opening day.

That's a pretty great starting figure, especially when you consider all the buzz regarding the films delayed release (it was originally scheduled to come out in October before Paramount shifted it to February).

In second place was "Valentine's Day" -- which managed to grab $5.6 million at the box office in its second Friday in release.

Here's your Top 5:

  1. "Shutter Island" -- $14 million
  2. "Valentine's Day" - $5.6 million
  3. "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" - $4 million
  4. "Avatar" - $3.9 million
  5. "Wolfman" - $2.9 million
