'Spider-Man 4' Indefinitely Delayed?

 In  Sci-Fi/Fantasy

There has been a lot of talk and excitement about the upcoming "Spider-Man 4" production which sees all the key cast and Director Sam Raimi returning.  Things have appeared to be ready to kick into gear, but apparently a major snag has been hit.

According to reports, "Spider-Man 4" has been "placed on indefinite hold".

The cause?  Well, there hasn't been any official word, but the reports are claiming that the snag is Sam Raimi and Sony Studios are at an impasse regarding who the villain should be.  Raimi wants The Vulture (reported to be played by John Malkovich) and the studio wants anyone BUT The Vulture.

This fight is nothing new to the web slinger series.  Reportedly in the last film, Raimi did not want Venom as a villain, but he was forced to use him by the studio.

There are rumors that this indefinite delay may also have something to do with the casting rumors of Tobey Maguire as Bilbo in the upcoming "The Hobbit" film.

Will this delay threaten the scheduled May 5th 2011 release date for the film?  It very will could.

I would rather have The Lizard as the main villain instead of The Vulture, especially since they have already introduced the Dr. Connors character.

    Hey Astrocreep:

Here's my problem with the idea of having "The Lizard". Spider-Man 1 and 2 and 3 have already had "The bad guy who is really a good guy who just got confused or sick or corupted somehow".

For once, I'd just like to see a BAD GUY. Conors would just be the same thing the other villains in the franchise have been so far. Don't you think?

Yeah, you have a great point there, but the Vulture is also another "bad guy who is really a good guy who just got confused or sick or corupted somehow", so maybe it would be best to not have either of those villains.

Wasn't it already said that Maguire wasn't going to be Bilbo
